- Be careful to avoid excessive humidity or heat, as this can cause tarnishing. Your jewelry should be stored in a dark, cool and dry place. Pure silver will naturally oxidize over time and with wear and tear and eventually tarnish. Storing silver jewelry in a closed plastic bag or airtight box when not in use will keep out the air that causes oxidation.
